2OZ OF ICED TEA (SWEETENED OR UNSWEETENED IS YOUR PREFERENCE).

THIS IS ONE OF MY SUMMER TIME RECIPES. IT'S A SMOOTH AND FLAVORFUL COCKTAIL THAT COMBINES SWEET STRAWBERRIES AND BITTERS TO CREATE, WHAT I LIKE TO CALL, A YING YANG BALANCED COCKTAIL.TRADITIONALLY I WOULD USE ORANGE BITTERS BUT I WENT SHOPPING THE OTHER DAY AT VERVE WINE AND CAME ACROSS BURLESQUE BITTERS. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? WELL ORANGE BITTERS IS MADE FROM PEELS OF SEVILLE ORANGES, CARDAMOM, CARAWAY SEED, CORIANDER AND BURNT SUGAR. BURLESQUE BITTERS IS BOTH FLORAL AND BERRIES WHICH CREATES A TARTNESS PLAYA WELL WITH A VARIETY OF SPIRITS. BITTERS IS AN ALCOHOLIC PREPARATION FLAVORED WITH BOTANICAL (HERBS, FRUITS, VEGGIES) MATTER WHO'S END RESULT IS CHARACTERIZED BY A BITTER, SOUR, OR BITTERSWEET FLAVOR.

• MUDDLE 3-4 STRAWBERRIES WITH 1OZ OF SIMPLE SYRUP

• ADD ICE

• 2OZ OF VODKA

• 1OZ OF GRAPEFRUIT JUICE

• 1-2 DASHES OF ORANGE BITTERS

• SHAKE AND STRAIN TWICE INTO A COUPE OR MARTINI GLASS

• SQUEESE A LEMON PEEL OVER COCKTAIL AND GARNISH WITH A STRAWBERRY SLICE

ONE OF MY SIGNATURE DRINKS, THE "SUPERIOR ONE." I CREATED HIS COCKTAIL FOR DIGITAL ART GALLERY TOUR EVENT IN PHILADELPHIA. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ST GERMAIN'S BECAUSE IT'S ALWAYS THE PERFECT TOUCH OF SWEET SMOOTHNESS NEEDED IN A COCKTAIL. I ORIGINALLY MADE THIS WITH BACARDI WHITE (SUPERIOR) RUM WHICH IS WHY I NAMED IT "SUPERIOR ONE," BUT LATER ON I DECIDED THE BACARDI GOLD BLENDER SMOOTHER WITH THE OTHER INGREDIENTS.

THE REASON WHY I CHOSE TO GO WITH GOLD OVER SUPERIOR IS A SLIGHT TASTE DELIGHT THAT WENT A LONG WAY TO MY PALATE. BOTH LIQUORS HAVE A TOASTED ALMOND AND VANILLA FLAVOR WITH AN OAKY FINISH. BUT THE GOLD ALSO HIS A BUTTERY CARAMEL AND SWEET BANANA TASTE, IT'S ALSO A LOT SMOOTHER AND MELLOW WHEREAS SUPERIOR IS DRY AND SUBTLE.

• MUDDLED 2-3 CUCUMBER CHICKS/SLICES AND 3-4 BASIL LEAVES
• 1.5OZ BACARDI GOLD RUM
• 1OZ ST GERMAIN ELDERFLOWER LIQUEUR
• .5OZ LIME JUICE
• 1OZ WHITE/CRANBERRY JUICE

TRADITIONAL APPLE MARTINIS ARE 1 PART VODKA, 1 PART APPLE SCHNAPPS, AND A SPLASH OF DRY VERMOUTH. ONE CAN EITHER SHAKE OR STIR, BUT ALWAYS STRAIN INTO A CHILLED MARTINI GLASS. BUT TODAY WE'RE MAKING IT WITH A LITTLE TWIST!

• START BY CHILLING A MARTINI GLASS

• 2OZ BROOKLYN REPUBLIC VODKA

• 1OZ APPLE SCHNAPPS

• .5OZ SWEET AND SOUR MIX OR LEMON SQUEEZE

• SHAKE OR STIR CONTENTS IN SHAKER-TIN

• DISCARD ICE IN MARTINI GLASS AND STRAIN INGREDIENTS INTO GLASS

• GARNISH WITH TWO SLICES OF GREEN APPLE

JAMESON IRISH MAID IS TRADITIONALLY SERVED INTO A ROCKS GLASS WITH ICE BUT FOR ME PERSONALLY I PREFER TO KEEP ICE OUT OF IT. THE WARMER A WHISKEY IS, THE MORE YOU’LL PICK UP ON THAT "HEAT," DOMINANT ALCOHOL FLAVORS AND SCENTS. ICE WILL TAKE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WHISKEY DOWN A BIT AND MAKE IT A BIT MORE PALATABLE. SOMETIMES A BIT OF WATER HELPS OPEN UP THE WHISKEY AND RELEASE NEW TASTES AND AROMAS. WITH THAT BEING SAID, I FIND THAT CERTAIN WHISKEY COCKTAILS SHAKEN IS ENOUGH AND NO NEED FOR ICE SITTING IN YOUR GLASS.

• JAMESON IRISH MAID 2 CHUCKS OR 3-4 SLICES OF CUCUMBER MUDDLED

• 2OZ OF JAMESON BLACK BARREL OR JAMESON

• 0.5OZ OF ST. GERMAIN ELDERFLOWER LIQUEUR

• 0.75 FRESH LEMON JUICE

• 0.75 SIMPLE SYRUP.

• SHAKE ALL THE INGREDIENTS AND FINE STRAIN IN COUPE OR MARTINI GLASS

HERE'S A LITTLE BARTENDER WORD PLAY I LEARNED WHEN I FIRST GOT INTO BARTENDING. WHISKEY HAS 5 B.A.S.I.C TYPES.

I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT THAT WAS AND SO MY GUEST PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THE RECIPE; "ADD A BUNCH OF HENNESSY (2OZ) AND THEN THROW IN A BUNCH OF HPNOTIQ (2OZ), AND THEN DO THE SHAKE THING TO MAKE IT GREEN." SO FOR THROW BACK THURSDAY I HAD TO SHARE WITH YOU THE FIRST TIME A BAR GUEST TAUGHT ME!

PS: I DIDN'T "DO THE SHAKE THING" TO MAKE IT GREEN BUT YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN AT HOME, I JUST THINK THIS IS PRETTIER 😉.

RAPHAEL YAKOBY, A YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AND COLLEGE DROPOUT LIVING WITH HIS PARENTS IN LONG ISLAND, WHO, AFTER SEEING A BLUE PERFUME AT BLOOMINGDALES'S, DECIDED TO CREATE A BLUE LIQUEUR. HE HAD A HARD TIME SELLING IT TO MANUFACTURERS AND LARGE LIQUOR BRANDS UNTIL THE NIGHT AT "JUSTIN'S" THAT PRESENTED TO THE HIP-HOP AND CLUB SCENE "THE INCREDIBLE HULK."

KNOWN AS THE "INCREDIBLE HULK" TO SOME, "GREEN EYED MONSTER" TO OTHERS, OR EVEN "HIP AND HEN," LEGEND HAS IT THAT AT A LAUNCH EVENT IN NYC'S RESTAURANT "JUSTIN" OWNED BY PUFFY IT WAS NOTICED THAT MANY WOMEN WERE DRINKING THE HPNOTIQ BUT NOT MANY MEN. A BARTENDER IN THE RESTAURANT, VICTOR ALVAREZ, MIXED HENNESSY AND HPNOTIQ TO "DILUTE THE FRUITY FLAVOR" RESULTING IN A GREEN BEVERAGE THAT QUICKLY BECAME A HIT.
